Diamonds Are Forever(first part of Mountain Magic)  Clint Slade's engaged to be married to the lovely and talented Jodi Goldman, and he's bringing her home to meet his family in the isolated woods of Crittenden County, Kentucky. He's nervous, but Mamma's assured him there's none of "that" going on right now.But "that" starts happening just as Clint and his fiancee arrive, and it quickly becomes clear that there's no hope of keeping the family's greatest secret… secret, at least not from Jodi. The real question is whether any of them are going to live to tell about it, when the Slade house is suddenly under seige by figures that have nothing human about them… This short novel (about 43,000 words - by comparison Digital Knight is about 112,000) was written based on an idea by Eric Flint for the "backwoods fantasy" collection Mountain Magic. It takes place in a world similar to that of Digital Knight - indeed, it wouldn't take all that much effort to fit it into the same universe - but wasn't intended to be in the same world. No additional stories have been written in this world, but Eric and I do have some ideas if there's ever any interest. (spoilers/background info to come) |
